It can be hard to keep on top of all the things to do in Doha, but that’s fine – it’s why we’re here.
The Doha Players, established in 1954, has been performing plays, musicals and family pantomime shows for the past 65 years.
And this weekend, they’re putting up a really exciting performance.
Mark your calendars for any day from Thursday September 26 to Saturday September 28. Proof, a play by American playwright David Auburn, will be performed live at Radisson Blu Hotel Doha.
The play premiered Off-Broadway in May 2000 and transferred to Broadway in October of the same year. It won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.
The play concerns Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a recently deceased mathematical genius in his fifties and a university professor, and her own struggle with mathematical genius and mental illness.
Catherine had cared for her father through his lengthy illness. Upon his death, his ex-graduate student Hal discovers a paradigm-shifting ‘proof’ about prime numbers in Robert and Catherine’s home.
The title refers both to that proof and to the play’s central question: Can Catherine prove the proof’s authorship?
Along with demonstrating the proof’s authenticity, the daughter also finds herself in a relationship with 28-year-old Hal.
Throughout, the play explores Catherine’s fear of following in her father’s footsteps, both mathematically and mentally and her desperate attempts to stay in control.
We’re already deeply intrigued with the plot and can’t wait to catch this award-winning play live in Doha.
