Reminder to follow safety precautions at Doha's swimming pools and beaches

People in Doha are being reminded of the risks involved with swimming at beaches and swimming pools across Qatar.

Dr. Khalid Abdulnoor, senior consultant Emergency Medicine and director of the Hamad International Training Center at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that drowning is the third highest cause of unintentional injuries worldwide, and accounts for seven percent of those deaths.

The highest proportion of people in that group are children under 10.

As we approach the time of year when many people cool off in the sea or at pools, Dr Abdulnoor said it was important to be safe and to make sure parents are with their children while they swim.

It is advised you avoid swimming in the sea during strong winds and high waves.

Children should also wear a swimming jacket or safe aids, learn how to swim and how to perform CPR (artificial respiration) and first aid kits should be kept near the pool.
