Now there are no social gatherings or going out in groups, which means you now can’t get out unless it’s to a supermarket or pharmacy. But you can still stay connected and host a fun movie night with all of them.

All you need is a broadband connection, a Netflix subscription, popcorn and friends, of course.

There’s a new Google Chrome extension that will allow you to socialise with your friends while watching the same Netflix movie.

You can simultaneously stream movies or shows on your desktop and chat with your friends on the same window (there’s a side chat bar) while watching the movie.

Here’s how you can do it:

Get a Netflix subscription

Everyone needs to have an account (we know you’re probably using your friend’s) and in case you don’t, just sign up for the 30-day free trial so that you don’t miss the party.

Download the Netflix Party extension

This is really simple. Visit www.netflixparty.com via Google Chrome and click the tab that says “Get Netflix Party for free”. You’ll be redirected to the Chrome webstore and once you’re here, click the blue box on the upper right corner that reads “Add to Chrome.” You’ll see a grey NP button on your browser tool bar now. And that’s all there is to it.

Start the party

Pick a show or movie to watch with your friends and start streaming. The NP icon will change to red and if you click it, you’ll become the host (aren’t you glad there’s no cleaning up involved this time around?). A party URL will appear that you can share with all your friends. Now laugh, eat that popcorn and pass all the annoying comments you want.
