It’s the month end and we completely understand if you’re broke. Not to worry, because you can have a feast in QR5. Check out our list below of the cheapest (and tastiest) things you can eat in the city before payday.
Banana cake from MRA
MRA is already one of our favourite budget restaurants in Doha. But what most people don’t know is that it has a top bakery. From delicious red velvet cakes to brilliant brownies, MRA has really tasty desserts. Try the banana or carrot cake for QR2 a piece. You might need two pieces or even more, that’s how good these are.
Al Ghanim (4442 2072).
Egg sandwich from Al Banuche Cafeteria
We’re not ashamed to say the staff here now know us by name. It’s not because the egg roll is only QR3 here. We’re so regular because it’s unbelievably tasty. A spicy omelette (they’re really generous with chillies) is rolled on to Arabic bread and topped with cheese and mayonnaise. You can have it open or rolled up. Trust us, it’s the best
Al Hilal (4462 2026).
Falafel at Abo Shariha
Falafel is truly a life-saver and not just because it’s cheap. These deep-fried morsels of goodness are made from chickpeas and just a few pieces can really fill you up. At Abo Shariha, not only can you pay as low as QR1 for a falafel, but you can take it with you and walk around the Souq. That’s an entire evening out for as low as QR1. Pass by Tea Time for a QR1 karak to top up the experience.
Souq Waqif (4480 7427).
Fatayer from Sidra
The supermarket at Woqod is something we can’t do without. From Dunkin’ Donuts for QR4 each to delicious ice creams, there’s something for every budget in here including a selection of hot foods. You can get tuna sandwiches for as low as QR6, but since your budget is only QR5, we recommend a spinach fatayer for QR4. Ask them to warm it up and grab a karak for QR1.
Various locations including Markhiya and The Pearl-Qatar.
Samosas from Samoosa Khaima
This tiny shop in Markhiya is hard to notice even though it’s on the main road. It’s just after Yellow Cab Pizza and you can’t get a better deal on deep-fried foods in town. For QR2, you can get five cheese or meat samosas. And for QR5, you can get 12. And, we’re out of here.
Markhiya (3010 1123).
