Things to do in Doha: Cycle for charity

Winter is here, so there’s no better time to get out and get some exercise done. There’s a cycling event coming up this weekend and it’s for charity.

Qatar Marriott Worldwide Business Council is conducting the second Ride for Education charity bike ride on Friday November 29.

The event is held through the Road to Awareness initiative, an annual associate fundraising campaign that has been making a valuable difference to the lives of children.

After its great success last year, with over 500 participants and more than QR40,000 raised to fund education of children worldwide, the second edition takes place at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.

Run for Education will be a fun-filled bicycle marathon which welcomes cyclists of all levels.

The tickets can be bought online and will be priced at QR250 for gold and QR350 for platinum.

All the funds raised from this year’s charity event will benefit Education Above All (EAA) Foundation to support its Educate Somali Children project, targeting 109,372 children in Somalia.

Ali Bin Tawar, Qatari cyclist and founder of Carbon Wheels, and Marriott International COO in the Middle East, Guido de Wilde, will be leading the ride.

The charity bike will kick off at 7am. Based on the cycling level you are at, there are two routes that you can take – 40km for professionals and 20km for beginners.
QR250 (gold), QR350 (platinum). Nov 29, 6am-noon. Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, West Bay (4485 4444).
