Ten ways to have fun indoors

Forget the great outdoors this month, we’ve picked ten awesome ways to have fun indoors.

Ten ways to have fun indoors

The blazing hot summer is here to stay (for a few more months) but that doesn’t mean you can’t have as much fun as you did during the cooler months. All you need is a change of place and a modified mind set and we’ve taken care of the rest. Here are ten things that’ll keep you cool in one of the hottest months of the year and we’re willing to bet you haven’t tried at least half these options.

Bounce to your heart’s content
Not only can this be a great stress-buster, it can be super fun, too. Head over to Bounce at Tawar Mall and spend an entire evening bouncing up and down dozens of trampolines. There are fun obstacle courses (that also involve jumping) and plenty of exciting activities. Keep in mind that everything is air-conditioned, so it’s the perfect opportunity to break a sweat without feeling like your lungs might collapse.

Catch a flick

Tired of going to regular malls with regular cinemas? Why not pop over to Lagoona Mall and watch a film in sophistication and luxury at Flik Cinemas? It might cost you an entire week’s worth of sustenance (if you’re living on a budget), but who says you can’t indulge once in a while without feeling guilty? Make sure you pick a film with a longer duration so you can make the best of your experience. We always suggest Bollywood flicks in these cases for approximately three hours of reclined comfort.

Chill at a café
“There aren’t enough cafés in Doha,” is something you will never, ever hear. If there’s one thing we’re abundantly blessed with besides shorelines, date palms and Land Cruisers, it’s coffee shops. And this is the perfect time to celebrate the sheer number of cafés that have been bestowed upon us by trying out at least one every day. From Qanat Quartier to Doha Festival City, there’s a load of them to try and if you’re not sure where to start, check out our list of nominees for the Best Café award for the upcoming Time Out Doha Restaurant Awards 2019.

Cool down with gelato
There’s no better way to cool down in the summer than with a cup of soft, creamy, delicious gelato. Try out a new place like the little Gelato café inside the Mandarin Oriental. They have a remarkable Qahwa (Arabic coffee) flavour along with all the other regulars. There’s also Amorino in Doha Festival City where you can get your favourite flavour shaped like a rose in a cone. Fun.

Experience virtual reality

Picture yourself equipped with virtual reality headsets, headphones, military-styled backpacks and state-of-the-art controllers. You can move around freely in an empty space but what you see and hear is a hyper realistic, virtually-generated world, where all your movements are replicated in the game. You’re playing a game where you can talk, strategise and banter with your mates. This is the next generation of virtual reality and you can experience it at Zero Latency. The concept is deeply immersive wherein visitors get a video gaming experience enhanced with free-roam virtual reality. This is also most probably unlike anything you’ve tried before so grab your friends and family and experience free-roaming virtual reality.

Explore the new national museum

Qatar’s most iconic landmark, the National Museum of Qatar, has opened recently and if you haven’t already been, now’s the right time. The vast museum hosts a variety of artefacts, visual displays and stunning creations, all of which shouldn’t be missed. The property itself is modelled after a desert rose with interconnected discs spanning the entire length of the exteriors. We promise you, it’s a mindblowing experience.

Go gaming
Soon to be a popular regional host for mega gaming tournaments, Virtuocity in Doha Festival City is a top option to spend a chilled evening whether you’re a teen tech-head, an adult gamer or just someone looking to try something different. The 3,500 sq m tech zone has a futuristic coliseum where 200 gamers on raised platforms can battle it out on big screens. This is the bleeding edge of gaming technology and competitive tech. As well as big screen gaming there are retro gaming rooms, pro-racing simulators, private VIP rooms and escape room challenges.

Hit up Doha’s newest shopping venue

The massively popular Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette has opened its doors in Doha and after we took a short tour, we’re absolutely stunned. The experience is fabulous, especially if you’re a true shopaholic (like us). The venue occupies three levels, swathed in luxury. There’s everything from perfumes and cosmetics (yes, even the brands you were only able to buy online thus far like Limecrime and Sigma) to high-end clothing and accessories from brands that have just arrived in Doha. As a bonus, the area outside Galeries Lafayette is air-conditioned (yes, it is outdoors and it is chilly) so you can comfortably stroll around after a dinner at the Russian café inside. Park underground for the quickest access.

Spend an evening at a theme park
The world’s first Angry Birds World theme park is right here in Doha and while it’s not a massive one, it’s fun for the entire family. The park is indoors and you get to try all the crazy rides in air-conditioned confines. There’s groovy themed music playing while Chuck and Red casually walk around and mingle with the little patrons. There’s themed food, too.

Watch a movie in Souq
Novo Cinemas are all over Doha but the one in Souq Waqif is completely unique. The state-of-the-art five-screen cinema is set in this historical location and features all the leading entertainment Novo is famous for. It offers four standard theatres and one VIP seven-star screen. All this in a traditional ambience that looks like an old Qatari house.
