For the first time ever, the the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will be held in the Middle East, in Qatar, and we cannot contain our excitement (mostly because we’re guilty of having binge-watched Make it or Break it).

Olympic champions and world champions from leading nations will gather to renew rivalries over ten days of incredible action right here in Aspire Dome. More than 700 female and male gymnasts from 80 countries around the world have registered to compete at the 2018 Worlds, the 48th edition of the competition, which is the largest number of countries that have ever participated in this event since inception.

Men will compete in six events (floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bar and horizontal bar) while women will compete in four (vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor). Three Team Qatar gymnasts will also be competing against world-class gymnasts. The championship will serve as the first qualification event for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Arturs Mickevics, president of the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Technical Committee says, “The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will be held this year in the Middle East for the first time, and the Doha Worlds are the first qualifying competition for the Olympic Games in 2020. With the three medal-winning teams booking their tickets to Tokyo 2020 and the top 24 teams advancing to the 2019 Stuttgart World Championships, this is an important event.”

Besides all the fun on uneven bars and balance beams, an on-site family fan zone will be available to all ticket-holders and, if you’re feeling even a little adventurous, you can actually test your (potential) talent by participating in any of the several fun activities on offer. Don’t miss the opening ceremony on Thursday, October 25 at 8.30pm. In case you see us terribly failing our mock tryouts in the fan zone, all we ask is that it doesn’t go out on social media.
From QR30. Tickets can be purchased from Virgin Megastores (all outlets). Oct 25-Nov 3, 8.30am-onwards. Aspire Dome, Aspire Zone, Al Waab (4413 6570).
