Stadium 974 is number two in our World Cup stadium rankings

Stadium 974

Built from recycled shipping containers, this venue will be completely dismantled after Qatar 2022

While we are not saying the other stadiums are not cool, we consider Stadium 974 to be one of the coolest because of the innovative idea behind its name and design (more on this in a moment).

Located adjacent to the Ras Abu Abboud Expressway, Stadium 974 is the closest venue to central Doha.

It will host seven matches, starting with Mexico versus Poland on Tuesday November 22 at 7pm.

Wondering how to get there on the Doha Metro, which matches Stadium 974 will host, or just curious about the stadium design? We’ve got you covered.

Stadium 974 design

Stadium 974

Designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects, Stadium 974 is a stadium like no other.

The venue is constructed using certified shipping containers and modular steel elements, echoing the nearby port and Doha’s long maritime history.

The modern arena almost looks like it is made from building blocks, adding to the playful vibe perfect for game viewing.

If you want to admire the stadium from a different angle, make sure you check out Box Park Qatar, too.

Stadium 974 legacy

For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, a host venue will be fully demountable. The stadium aims to show the world that a structure can be visually appealing and cost-effective.

A lush waterfront development will occupy the site once the stadium is dismantled.

Work will begin soon after the final whistle brings the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to an end.
