Cycling is undoubtedly an excellent way to keep fit, as well as a great way to get from A to B.

And now journeys by bike in Qatar are set to get even easier thanks to a new deal signed between the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Qatar Cyclists Center.

Earlier this year, the Olympic Cycling Lane, a 33km route connecting Doha to the Al Bayt World Cup 2022 stadium in Al Khor, opened.

The two-lane cyclist-only road, which starts near Doha Golf Club, is now set to be developed further.

Ashghal and Qatar Cyclists Center will now provide services such as electric bike parking spaces and maintain signage and the asphalt.

Dr AbdulazizJaham Al Kuwari, President of Qatar Cyclists, said, “We seek to encourage all family members to use the fast track, including provision of first aid to those who are on the track and providing logistics services using motorcycles to provide emergency assistance.”

Ashghal is also currently developing a network of cycling and pedestrian paths that will be 2,650 km in length by 2022.
