Sports and fitness enthusiasts, here’s your chance to become the local Ironman.
Have you ever wanted to participate in an intense but fun triathlon without having to train for six months a year? For a taste of this sport, Doha Triathlon offers a starters’ race.
The Super Sprint distance for beginners and children 13-15 years old starts with a 375 metre swim, a 10km cycle and a 2.5km run. It will be among other longer races and the Qatar National Championship.
Participants will get to join a good mix of professional, international, local and amateur athletes, for this very unique opportunity to cycle on Doha Corniche, swim in the safe waters of the bay (we know you’ve secretly always wanted to) and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Museum of Islamic Art park. Transition will be placed next to Richard Serra’s ‘7’ Sculpture. The cycling leg will be along the Corniche and back to the Museum Park for the run.
Doha Triathlon will take place on Friday 8 February in the surrounding area of the Museum of Islamic Art, with the scenic view of Doha’s skyline in the background. Registration is open till Monday 4 February (inclusive).
The race promises to be super exciting and the event will also include a Fun Duathlon for kids between seven and 12 years of age. They will cycle and run for short distances around the park.
Participants who finish the race will get medals, goodie bags and of course, bragging rights.
Doha Triathlon is sponsored by Qatar National Tourism Authority, with the support of Qatar Triathlon Federation and Qatar Museums.
Registration mandatory. QR75 (Duathlon), QR150 (Sprint). Feb 8, 4.30am-10.30am. Museum of Islamic Art area. For more information, visit www.doha-triathlon.com.
