This Lebanese eatery mixes it up, but does it get it right?

Zeituna has taken the place the Rotana’s Lebanese restaurant Misk, and what an upgrade this eatery is, despite just a few minor tweaks to the décor. The dining room still feels a bit ballroom-ish and the small stage for live performances remains, but the big changes are in the food – we can certainly taste the improvement.

We start with a hummus beiruty, which is incredibly creamy and great with the addition of diced tomatoes and mint. We also try a not-so-Lebanese prawn cocktail and with eight meaty pieces of fresh shrimp – excellent value at just QR40.

The menu really spoils you for choice, and after much deliberation, we decide on some lamb chops and batinjan bil khodra (aubergine with rice) for mains. The lamb chops are tender and loaded with delightful, smoky flavours. The aubergine is stuffed with vegetables mixed with a tangy tomato sauce, and served with white rice. The flavours are plain and simple, and it’s a great guilt-free, but filling, main.

The food at Zeituna is tasty and good value, while the live performances will keep you entertained (and might even get you on your feet). This is a top all-rounder to enjoy with your pals any day of the week.

Great food and live music make this place.
