Delicious pan-Asian food served in an elegant but casual setting

Chopsticks at the ready! We’re excited to try the newly opened Asian fusion restaurant at The Gate Mall. There’s fragrant Thai food, snazzed-up specialties from Japan and other Asian classics, and in a stylish set-up that’s a cross between high-end and casual dining.
We start with the vibrant okonomiyaki. This Japanese pancake with flavours as bright as its colours is an utter success. Yugo’s signature stacks, which we try next, are a letdown. Sushi rice and seaweed are layered with different combinations like chicken teriyaki and spicy shrimp, and served in a platter. We can barely taste anything but rice. After popping a few of these rice blobs, some of which are even falling apart, we’re ready for some moreish mains. The massaman curry is absolutely banging – it’s sweet, spicy and tangy with tender cubes of delicious, slow-cooked lamb. It goes brilliantly with white rice on the side, but the sweetness really stands out when mixed with rice. The yaki soba is our favourite – stir fried with white cabbage and shitake mushrooms. It’s incredibly saucy and the shrimp tastes fresh.
Everything is decently presented and reasonably priced for the quality and portions of food and ambience it offers. Repeat visits are definitely in the books.
The bottom line
We’ve just discovered another Asian gem.
