The Qanat Quartier is filled to the brim with cafés, and it feels almost impossible to pick just one. But when you head there next, we think you should make a beeline for Volume Café.
The two-storey spot is located next to the Rialto bridge, and offers up a gorgeous view of the Burano-style colourful buildings along the canal. Inside is your run-of-the-mill café styling, with plenty of marble and tiling – until you get upstairs, that is. There you’ll find a library, complete with cosy sofas to sink into. Bibliophiles, and anyone seeking out a homey nook, won’t ever want to leave.
The draw of sitting in the sun proves too strong, and we pull up a chair outside. The place is bustling with people enjoying a weekend breakfast, and we soon join them.
All bases are covered in the menu, with everything from eggs benedict and shakshuka to avocado toast and pancakes, but we think the falafel pita, with halloumi and tahini, is a winner. For those heading here for lunch or dinner, the all-day menu has plenty of salads and sandwiches, like the grilled cheese or roast beef, plus pastas and burgers.
The desserts menu is huge, so fans of a cake and coffee combo will not be disappointed. The French toast and tiramisu catch our eye, but on the recommendation of the waitress, we order the honey pudding, and we’re very happy with the choice.
Over the weekend, Volume Café is chock-a-block with people, and we completely understand the appeal. Book a seat (preferably for breakfast and a sweet treat) and discover why for yourself.
