A really masculine restaurant that fires up the best meat in town

Time Out Says

You can’t miss the massive metal bulls at the entrance, once you’re in the area, and we dare to say they look rather inviting. Toro Toro features some really interesting décor, a blend of flame and muscle-inspired interiors, strong, deep accents and striking large floor to ceiling windows with beautiful views of The Pearl-Qatar.

The food here follows a sharing philosophy (we are not complaining) and their selection of hot and cold small plates is hard to narrow down. We go with the waiter’s recommendation of chicken tacos, a run-of-the-mill guacamole dip and mushroom flatbread. The tacos could use more sauce, but nevertheless taste delicious. The guacamole is not as smoky as we’d like it to be and a bit too tangy, but the good news is, you won’t end up wasting any of it because they generously top up the tortilla chips. But just when we thought one can’t go wrong with mushroom and truffle, the combination of dreams, we realise extra salt can ruin anything.

But nothing matters any more when the main course arrives – a churrasco grill for two. The visual appeal itself is enough, a handsome chef exuding maximum masculinity and slicing macho meat right at your table. We have been known to visualise a battle of the beefs, secretly hoping to see it live one day. Today is that day – a high-quality striploin vs Brazilian picanha in the finals. The lamb chops put up a tough fight against the striploin, and this is a tough decision to make, but one melting bite of the picanha is enough to declare it the winner.

The battle has been good, but the results have left us dazed and motionless. If only we had a horse right now, to lie across and get a ride back home. Wishful thinking, obviously, while we sweat it out in the long valet line. We can’t whine though, we’ve just had one of the best meals in the city.

The bottom line

Meaty mains are what they do best.
