The sounds of the lounge drift into the main dining space but conversation isn’t drowned out by the noise. Besides the brilliant paintings and the stylish ambience, everything has great detail.
Our pre-appetiser is a brioche bread glazed with blue cheese and a chive oil. STK legend has it that only a select few know the secret recipe for this concoction. It is an aromatic and slightly sweet bite before the meal.
The tempura batter on the hamour of our first appetiser, the Baja-style fish tacos, is fluffy, airy and delicate. The sprinkling of cucumber salsa really refreshes the dish. We wet our fins further, sampling the hamachi ceviche next. If anything is symbolic of Doha’s multiculturalism, a Japanese-Peruvian seafood dish served in an American restaurant would be it. The wagyu truffle sliders are the winners, though.
Our mouths water as the medium rare Australian Wagyu with Béarnaise sauce arrives. This delicate cut of meat is complemented beautifully with the side of creamed spinach. The flavours are so rich, that it’s still a perfect size for anyone who doesn’t want to overindulge. For the steak connoisseurs, other options such as USDA fillets, sirloins and rib eyes as well as a Japanese Hida wagyu are available. If you want to indulge, the Chateaubriand is an excellent choice. We highly recommend the truffle mac ’n’ cheese and mushroom pot pie for sides.
We tuck into the prime beef short rib which is one of the prettiest dishes tonight. A perfectly formed square of short rib rests on the bone, garnished with flowers of onions and a medley of winter vegetables. The dish is wonderfully hearty with a subtle smoky barbecue flavour.
The STK experience really lives up to the hype. It has the spunk, the dance, the taste and the vibes from a perfect dinner party.
