Time Out Says

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Forsooth, you’re a bit of a cuckold if you believe that the ornate, outrageously decadent and stupendously ostentatious Shakespeare & Co., at The Pearl, resembles anything like late sixteenth century England. With staff adorned in flouncy garb and an interior to catch the eye of anyone with a penchant for the elaborate, the décor is the epitome of over the top. You only have to look at what happened to Christopher Marlowe to know that this is not a “real” representation of Old England at all. But what cannot be doubted, however, is that it is really fun. This makes it more of an experience than anything else. This is one of the few places in Doha that is packed on a weekend morning, with all sorts of nationalities frequenting (even British). Outside is also busy, too, but this is one of the few spots in Doha where you really do have to sit inside to savour the atmosphere.

A note on the menu – it is vast! Breakfast options, sweet and savoury crepes, egg specials, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, pizzas, main dishes and a dessert menu means there should be something for everyone.

We go during breakfast time and one of us orders the healthy breakfast. An egg white omelette, accompanied by herbed roasted potatoes, asparagus and with yoghurt, brown toast and honey was filling as well as pleasant. The only disappointment was that the egg white omelette had no seasoning and was thus rather bland. However, one of the perks for QR49 was the fact that this included a tea or coffee and a soft juice, making it a value for money order.

While one of us goes healthy, the other goes Lebanese, ordering the halloumi saj. The halloumi and oregano snack was the highlight of the breakfast, with perfectly roasted pepper and plenty of olives to add more textural dimensions, colour and flavour to the dish. It was a good foil to a rather standard breakfast option.
Add to this a cup of tea (English breakfast, of course) and a rather expensive but utterly pleasant mixed fruit juice and the journey to faux England was complete, and one we would like to make again.

The Menu
1x halloumi saj QR17
1x healthy breakfast QR49
1x mixed fruit juice QR26
1x tea QR16
1x Aqua Panna QR11
Total QR119
