Time Out Says
It’s also a highly sophisticated dining room. The restaurant is low lit, with deep woods and dark hues dominating the colour scheme. It’s surprisingly empty when we visit at the weekend, but since we want a quiet dinner, it’s perfect – for us, if not the venue’s manager.
Prime is the place for steak-lovers. The menu offers many options, from Kobe to wagyu, in a variety of cuts. We select a 200g USDA Prime rib-eye, and it arrives cooked perfectly to our order. It’s juicy and excellent. We slice through it with ease and savour its buttery, well-seasoned flavours.
We can’t say the same of the burger, though. While we love the wagyu beef patty, the inclusion of foie gras massively distracts from the classic flavours and is much too greasy to enjoy.
Since Prime is primarily a steakhouse, we’re surprised by the amount of options on the menu for dishes other than steak. If you’re no carnivore, you’ll be happy to know that there’s also plenty of seafood to choose from. We order the crab and sweet pea panna cotta, though, the jelly-like texture of the pea purée at the bottom is slightly odd. Do away with it by mixing everything up. Put the peach Monin syrup on the side of the dish to add a little controlled sweetness.
If you find this addition too sweet and need a palate cleanser with a kick, before you start your mains, try the sous vide red chilli prawns. The crustacean tastes super-fresh and delicious, with its coconut-infused butternut squash and carrot. Pour the Thai red curry sauce on top to add a further dimension of flavour.
Apart from the river of grease from the burger (and the slightly bizarre texture of the crab panna cotta) from the service to the décor, Prime really shines. It’s definitely one of Doha’s mightiest meaty gems.
