We’re walked through to the main dining area, after crossing a bar on the right hand side and an open kitchen with a meat display on the left. And the view is beautiful.
We start with our waiter’s recommendation of Nusr-Et’s special salad. It’s refreshing and light with a delicious mix of goat’s cheese, walnuts, raisins and pomegranate vinaigrette.
The meat sushi is also worth mentioning – it’s extraordinary and unique. Our waiter brings over a special tray and torches it right before our eyes. The meat is served on a bed of rice and topped with crisps – the portion is small, but for good reason – you’ll need to save space for later. A portion of meat spaghetti is also flame-grilled right in front of us and the result is incredibly juicy, long cuts of steak so tender they fall apart beautifully.
So what if everything is too gimmicky? We adore a good show, and if there’s food involved (and the doings of a viral internet star), what’s not to love? We sit pretty distracted by the waiter lovingly slicing massive portions of sirloin and tenderloin steaks – that is, until our porterhouse arrives. Our knife literally slides through it like we’re cutting butter.
We have to admit, our waiter’s salting technique is nearly as good as Nusret’s himself. We also have to admit that we might have got carried away trying to imitate that technique and really salted the meat up. The good news is, Nusr-Et’s salt is brilliant and you can pretty much never make it too salty.
As we walk out after a lot of pricey, but huge portions of meat, we can’t help but stop by near the entrance and have our picture taken with Salt Bae’s massive painting on the brick wall. Bucket list item number seven crossed off.
