Nova Venezia

A luxurious Italian restaurant by the canal

Time Out Says

It seems pretty perfect – an Italian restaurant right by the canals of Venice-themed Qanat Quartier. It looks rather casual from the outside, but as soon as we step in, we’re amazed at how quickly it transforms into what looks like a fine-dining venue. We visit on a weekday afternoon and it’s quiet inside but that’s not surprising.

Gold-washed walls surround the space filled with bottle-green suede couches and glass-top tables. The metal and glass combination chandeliers are unique and add real elegance, but the silence inside is almost deafening. Some light background instrumental tunes would be nice.

The menu is quite basic when it comes to authentic Italian options. There are, however, plenty of breakfast and dessert items. For lunch, we start with an antipasti platter (good for two) – not very commonly found in Doha restaurants. There’s a selection of cheeses, cold cuts and some peppers filled with cream cheese.

We try the orecchiette with shrimp and saffron for mains. It’s vibrant and looks slightly better than it tastes initially. We top up the seasoning and the dish becomes near perfect.

With a location like this and a reasonably priced menu, we’re definitely coming back to check it out again.
