Casual Chinese restaurant with food to rival finer venues

Time Out Says

Barwa Towers is already home to one of our favourite cafés, so we were excited to find that its next culinary addition is also a hit. The unimposing entrance hides a smart, tasteful dining room, dimly lit with plenty of Chinese motifs made modern.

Service is excellent, even if you choose to sit at one of the slightly screened-off tables, or in one of the many private dining rooms. For a restaurant still finding its feet, this is particularly impressive, and staff make excellent recommendations, pointing us towards unusual dishes such as the deep-fried crackling spinach with roasted almonds.

Everything we try is full of flavour but well-balanced, though fans of spicy food should try the fiery fried tofu (the steamed Sichuan chili sea bass could use some more heat). Otherwise, we’d recommend ordering one of the clay pot dishes such as the Sanpei chicken.

End the meal with a pot of traditional tea, and the not-so-traditional coconut dumplings in honey butter sauce. The dish exemplifies this restaurant: tasteful, traditional and modern.

The bottom line

Excellent and unique food in a smart-casual setting.
