Lo Spaghetto

Authentic Italian trattoria with the idyllic courtyard in Doha

Time Out Says

Lo Spaghetto recently moved from its old, but characterful, spot to a shiny new venue. At first, we were sceptical about how it would measure up, but we are glad to find the new location a significant improvement on the last.

The building is light and modern, surrounded by big glass windows. Outside, the idyllic little courtyard is lush, green and surrounded by so much foliage that you’ll hardly believe you’re still in Doha. Evenings are rather romantic, when it’s softly lit by hanging lanterns. It’s somehow quiet, too, and there’s barely a trace of the busy roads rushing by outside.

Unfortunately, the food doesn’t always measure up. The warm octopus with potato, for example, would be wonderful if it were just a little less fatty, and options like the seafood spaghetti are very well made, but skimpy on the seafood. Pizzas are very nearly perfect, but aren’t always crispy enough.

Other options, however, are standout, including the delicious papardelle with roast beef sauce and porcini mushrooms, and the dreamily creamy panna cotta. All things considered, Lo Spaghetto still offers just as good value for money as it always has, in an even better setting.

The bottom line
A good Italian meal with some minor mis-steps but an unbeatable outdoor setting.
