Time Out Says
Yet still, it is elegant. There’s a beautiful pianist playing in a corner and a fabulous outdoor terrace area. The waitresses are very attentive. So we have high hopes for the food.
We decide to share a French onion soup, rocket and frisée salad with goats’ cheese and a warm appetiser of saffron penne with tiger prawn tail. For mains, I go for the salmon medallion with a side of olive mashed potatoes and my friend tries the fresh mussels with a side of French fries.
The onion soup is beautiful with just enough cheese and wonderfully chunky croutons that do a good job of soaking up all the flavour. The salad is fresh with a lovely light dressing and creamy goats’ cheese. The saffron penne is also tasty. The sauce is rich and creamy with plenty of saffron to add that extra je ne sais quoi, the pasta is nicely cooked and the tiger prawn is juicy.
And so on to mains. The presentation of the mussels is lovely, but unfortunately we’re not too keen on the creamy sauce which is a little too rich in flavour, a bit too watery in consistency and far too garlicky. The salmon, on the other hand, is perfectly cooked and the green pea and cress soup it comes with is fresh and tastes great. The mashed potatoes as well, are creamy and well seasoned. The chips, however, while tasty, are crispy thin and remind me of fast food.
By this point, we’re very full so we decide to share one dessert and it had to be crème brulée. It comes too quickly but we’re happy with it. There’s a crunch to the caramel and the vanilla custard is velvety smooth.
We really enjoyed our dinner here and would go back. It’s just a shame that with a lack of people there isn’t as much atmosphere as you’d like.
