Time Out Says
We headed over fairly early on a regular weekday night to find the place was already filling up. The menu, which has recently been revamped, offers a range of meals such as steaks, seafood, pasta, salads and more that vary in prices. Now a lounge bar, in my opinion, isn’t the type of place you go for a three-course dining experience but you could actually do it in The Jazz Club as everything sounds so tasty.
We keep it simple though, as I go for the smoked Norwegian salmon with vegetables and my dining companion tries a Rib-Eye steak with a side of truffled macaroni cheese. As we wait for the food to come, we sit back in our booth and enjoy the atmosphere. The band isn’t on yet but it still feels lively and it’s nice to be able to chat.
It doesn’t take long before we’re served. I tuck in and find my dish is very simple but beautifully cooked. The salmon is perfect – flaky and soft, not overdone at all – and the asparagus and other medley of vegetables it comes with are buttery and delicious. The only thing I would have liked to see is more vegetables or something else on the plate such as potatoes or a puree because it is a hefty chunk of salmon.
My friend, on the other hand, has realised his steak is far too overdone. We flag a waiter down and ask if there’s anything that can be done, seeing as he originally asked for it to be medium. The man we speak to is very accommodating, and apologetic, and he takes it immediately back to the chef who cooks up another one to perfection. After that, my dining partner has no complaints at all. The steak is juicy, just how he likes it and the mac and cheese, which is laced with plenty of truffle oil, is absolutely divine.
Once we’re done the band comes out and we kick back with full and sated bellies to enjoy a couple of tunes. It’s the kind of place that would be perfect for a date. All in all we have a really good experience, topped with beautiful food and tasty mixed drinks, which we’d recommend to anyone. For bar food it’s a tad on the pricey side but for what you get, and to enjoy the atmosphere, it’s worth it.
