Hunters Room & Grill

A delightful steakhouse with well-done interiors

Time Out Says

An oasis of calm, hidden away on the mezzanine of The Westin Doha, is Hunters Room & Grill. The fountain running over a slate wall gives a stark contrast to the business-like stylings of the hotel. The dark interiors are excellent, especially since we’re prone to ketchup-stain accidents.

Our first set of nibbles arrives quickly, a delicious bread basket with a selection of olive oils in what looks like a painter’s palette. We have the choice of basil infusion, chilli, pesto and a side of balsamic. We dunk our sundried tomato bread into them with great vigour. It’s a nice way to start the meal and whets our appetite for the mains.

We pick the Artemis burger which arrives wedged on top of an old New York Times article. The bun is stamped with a Hunters Room & Grill logo. The kitchen does justice to the humble burger with its fresh greens adding a crisp finish to the lightly spiced patties. The cheese swirls and oozes around the ever-so-sweet toasted brioche. This is a burger to savour, and up there with some of the very best in the city.

The wagyu rump steak that arrives to our table next is a sensation, with meat so delicate that our taste buds go into overdrive.

It’s rich but not overpowering and a more than ample portion to satisfy our bellies. Our knives slide right through and the marbling is just fantastic.

After all the meaty morsels, we decide to try dessert and order a sticky toffee pudding. It has a nod to Arabia through the dates topped with pistachio nuts and is served with fresh home-made vanilla ice cream that’s smooth, airy and a perfect combination with the pudding.

The Oreo chocolate mousse cheesecake is a crackling, crunchy combination of texture, and the mousse filling is extremely moreish. We are big fans of this dessert, too.

Overall, we find very little to fault from our Hunters experience. The service is top notch and most importantly, the food is on point.

If you want to treat a fellow carnivore friend to a high-quality dinner free of pretentiousness, this is just the place to do it. Even the kids would love the burgers, and if they can’t finish their portions, there will always be willing volunteers.
