It’s been a summer of change for some of Doha’s most popular venues, with many more still due to go under the hammer before the end of September.
But two have opened ahead of the rest. W Doha’s new – and very much improved – Wahm is open, now with sleek, modern fittings and more of an upscale lounge vibe than casual poolside hangout. Gold detailing, mosaics and leather and velvet furniture have all been incorporated, and the space was designed by the creatives behind Market by Jean-George’s re-vamp earlier this year.
The new menu has been similarly refined with a selection of detoxifying raw juices, skinny mixed drinks and mocktails plus fresh ceviches and a farmhouse cheeseboard. For those in the mood for more substantial bites, you can tuck into comfort food like hearty pizza breads, fish and chips and arancini balls.
Meanwhile, Bohemia at Marsa Malaz Kempinski has also re-opened as a totally different concept. No longer bar, it’s now a casual café and meeting spot. In many ways a cooler counterpart to Café Murano across the lobby: open later, and with the same moody, chic décor from its original bar setting. It is also now the only place in the hotel lobby where guests can smoke (there’s even a cigar cabinet), while the overhauled menu includes freshly baked cakes and Arabic finger food.
Next month, look out for Mykonos at the InterContinental Doha, which has closed for the summer to refresh its look, and the Ritz-Carlton’s fine-dining seafood restaurant La Mer which is finally due to re-open in September, after some lengthy renovations.
Bohemia open Mon-Sat noon-midnight, Sun 8am-2pm; Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl-Qatar (4035 5011). Wahm open daily 5pm-2am; W Doha Hotel, West Bay (4453 5135).
