You don’t need to completely abandon hope of dining al fresco just because you’re living in Qatar. The indoor garden at Hunters’ Room & Grill is lush, green and airy with tree-trunk tables, trickling fountains and a glass ceiling several floors above. With meandering pathways around its edges, and the odd hotel guest strolling by, the venue is more like a garden than you would expect from an indoor space in a hotel situated right in the middle of bustling Freej Bin Mahmoud.
The new additions to Hunters’ menu are as summery as the venue, like this beautiful, bright duck salad. It’s a medley of caramelised shallots, sautéed beetroot cubes, toasted pumpkin seeds, fresh watermelon, thinly sliced radish and micro herb garnishes.
The duck is cooked to preference with a golden, pan-seared skin before being placed on top of thyme-infused, grilled polenta.
It’s subtly seasoned, simply, with salt and pepper, so the natural, fresh flavours of the vegetables really shine. Prettily plated and light – the absolute antithesis of the heavily-sauced duck dishes that dominate most menus – this is truly a dish for the summer.
