Time Out Says
The staff are possibly the friendliest you’ll find in all of Souq Waqif and we chat with them for at least five minutes before placing our order. As we wait on some extremely cosy outdoor couches for our appetisers – muhammara and hummus along with some fattoush – a tannoura dancer takes to the mini stage indoors. We can see him spin and light up the entire restaurant. The live band slowly resumes as we start with the fattoush. There’s extra pomegranate sauce which we highly recommend. The muhammara is the best in Doha – it’s brilliantly spiced and has a very unique tang. The hummus is incredibly creamy, not too sour and whipped up perfectly. We order a plate of mixed grills that arrive quickly to the table. The meats are smoky and succulent and one plate is more than sufficient for two.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a meal this homely and satisfying. Damasca One has to be one of our top picks for Arabic dining in the city owing to how authentic, delicious and reliably consistent its food is.
