A luxurious Lebanese restaurant that won’t pinch your wallet

Time Out Says

We visit Mall of Qatar once in a while and this time, we’re whisked away to the land of cedar trees, or at least a luxurious version of it. This popular Lebanese chain has slick, modern décor with stone and back walls and a brilliant starlight ceiling. You’d be forgiven for thinking you are in a five-star hotel.

We sit down and immediately deliberate our choices while savouring a mini tagine with olive oil and an eggplant relish, alongside fresh, wonderfully warm oven-baked flatbread.

The selection is varied and our cold starters selection stare at us like a three-eyed monster of flavour (it really does).

Bebabel has an army of bread men who are on a mission to replenish your piping hot pita supply. The breads go perfectly with our cold starters – a rich pesto hummus with a wonderful zing, a garlic labneh that can be a little heavier on the garlic and the mesbeh, a medley of crispy, fried onions and spring greens, topped with toasted pine nuts.

The hot talatas feature a really aromatic ras asfour or finely chopped lamb soaked in cherry that really hits the mark. The perfectly moist soujouk is warmly stewing in an onion and tomato gravy with sparkling cherry tomatoes, flavoured with a deliciously subtle blend of spiciness and sweetness. The samboussek is a real treat, it’s butter and flaky on the outside and the mince inside is succulent with a nice crunch from the pine nuts. The mixed grill is a portion for one but we are so stuffed with starters that sharing seems like a winning option. It is beautifully plated and has tender, smokey meats. The kebab is slightly over-seasoned, though.

The karabij with ghazel and pistachio is the most popular dessert. It’s a huge portion featuring a lovely combination of biscuits and pistachio on the base and rosewater-infused homemade ice cream. Wispy candy floss coats the top of this delicious dish.

The service at Bebabel is excellent and staff are eager to please and accommodate. Dishes arrive super-quick even during busy hours. It’s a beautiful place to refuel after a busy day shopping at the mall, if you’re looking for a stylish meal without breaking the bank.
