Chinese restaurant Liang has just opened at Mandarin Oriental, Doha

There’s a brand-new restaurant in town and we can’t contain our excitement. There are very few spots in the country serving authentic Chinese cuisine and new to that list is Liang at Mandarin Oriental, Doha.

The brilliant new dining destination promises to take you on an unmatched journey of culinary discovery. Liang is adjacent to the main hotel, in Barahat Msheireb at the heart of Msheireb Downtown. The exciting restaurant showcases distinct Chinese cuisine and features authentic Cantonese recipes along with select, traditional, provincial dishes from across China.

The restaurant’s name, Liang, refers to the beam of light reflected by the moon, in Chinese. Emphasising the moon as a key symbol in both cultures, the name aims to celebrate the connection between Qatari and Chinese traditions. Detailed with art and antiques from across China, the traditional atmosphere features amorous elements and portrays the rich Chinese culture.

Executive chef Lam brings his expertise to elevate Liang as a unique experience. You’ll discover unparalleled authenticity rooted in details such as the precision in creating versatile options of dim sum, a classic Cantonese dish, the advanced wok technique that highlights the flavours of the fresh ingredients in the wok and the traditional preparation of the exceptional Peking duck.

During a culinary journey at Liang, you can look forward to witnessing experiences such the famous La Mian performance and a typical tea performance. The Beijing La Mian is performed live by the chefs, who transform a simple mound of dough into hundreds of long thin strands of noodles within minutes. The tea performance is given by a certified Sichuan tea master, wherein a traditional long-spout teapot is incorporated into a fusion of dance and martial arts.

Mandarin Oriental, Doha has partnered with Hong Kong Maxim’s Caterer Ltd. The group is known for leading the Chinese cuisine scene and has been recognised with a Michelin Star Award. Delegated by Maxim’s Group, chef Lam has masterfully created each recipe according to the group’s standards of global excellence.

It’s a truly exceptional experience and we can’t wait to discover all the brilliant Chinese flavours here.
