And while we were scouring the city for the best offers on grub, we’ve just been told Hakkasan Doha is celebrating Chinese New Year with an exclusive menu.
Available from January 24 until February 8, there’s a range of special dishes designed to reflect good health and fortune for 2020.
The theme will be red, as the colour represents luck in Chinese tradition. Hakkasan will have red wishing ribbons for you to write down your wishes for 2020.
The traditional lucky know which symbolises good luck and a prosperous life will also be highlighted on the red wishing ribbons.
The set menu, for QR338 per person (with a minimum of two guests), showcases culinary creativity with each dish being a colourful representation of different elements of the Chinese New Year calendar.
Standout dishes from the menu include the golden treasure pockets filled with abalone and wild mushrooms, crafted to resemble a money bag to reflect wealth, and the diver scallops with taro mousseline and brown butter black bean sauce. In China, scallops symbolise new opportunities, making them a firm favourite during this occasion.
The lucky jie dessert is designed to resemble a lucky Chinese knot for good fortune in the year ahead. It combines salted caramel ganache with mandarin, chilli and chocolate.
And if you’re looking for something more indulgent, don’t miss on the Friday brunch here.
QR338 (per person). Jan 24-Feb 8. Hakkasan Doha, The St. Regis Doha, West Bay Lagoon (4446 0170).
