Nozomi has brand-new dishes

One of our absolute favourite Japanese restaurants in Doha has added a few new dishes to its menu and we think it’s brilliant.

You’re probably already making a reservation right now and while you’re at it, we’ve picked seven must-try items on Nozomi’s á la carte.

Unagi

This sweet-water eel is a delight for those who like a little sweet in their savoury. It’s served with homemade brioche, raspberry jelly and sweet soya. It’s also a really beautiful looking dish, so it’s fine if you spend the first few minutes taking pictures.

Otoro
There are a few things tastier than tuna belly and if you’re craving it, Nozomi’s newest addition to the seafood menu, a marinated otoro served with fresh shisho leaves and kinzame wasabi, is the way to go.

Maki rolls
There are two new makis that we can’t get enough of (or at least until we’ve had a minimum of two orders of each) – the sake kani maki and the spicy tuna maki. The former has spicy salmon and king crab served with Japanese mayo while the latter is served with ginger jelly, which adds a mild kick to the already spicy roll.

Inarizushi

The good news is we’ve finally found a place serving this Japanese delicacy in Doha and the even better news is it tastes fantastic. The new additions come in three variants – kani which is dry tofu skin filled with king crab, cucumber and spring onions, tori which has chicken thighs, cucumber and spring onions and yasai which is vegetarian.

Sake butter roll

The Arabian Gulf tempura maki has always been our favourite until we tried the sake butter roll. This latest tempura maki has salmon and snow pea shoots deep-fried in panko and it’s frankly the most indulgent maki on the menu.

Soft shell crab

This crustacean-themed tempura maki is crunchy, garlicky and spicy, all at the same time. It’s a wonderful amalgamation of flavour and texture thanks to the garlic tanuki and spicy sauce that comes in it.

Kinoko gyoza
This new vegetarian hot dish is a stunner. The gyozas are loaded with mixed wild mushrooms and served with lemon ponzu. The citrusy zest sits very well with the woodsy flavour and whether you’re vegetarian or not, you’re going to be super pleased.
