Tarts and tartares

Sample brilliant French favourites at this newly opened modern brasserie

Tarts and tartares

Whether you celebrate Bastille Day or you’re just a plain and simple lover of French food, you’ll be very excited to hear that Doha’s first authentic French brasserie has just opened.

Sel & Miel located in The Ritz Carlton, Doha is every foodie’s dream – simple, authentic food in recipes passed down from generations. It’s a modern brasserie, so expect stylish, chic interiors but the food stays true to its roots.

The French menu here is prepared to perfection by chef Alain Regnault and his culinary team. You’ve probably heard the phrase la joie de vivre, which translates to the joy of living, and this sentiment echoes through every corner of Sel & Miel. It’s reminiscent of the Parisian lifestyle, so you don’t have to fly all the way for a proper culinary experience.

Sel & Miel showcases comfortable interiors with four different seating sections which include the main dining area, bar seating and an indoor terrace. There is a private dining room called the chef’s table that can accommodate nine guests. The design features a marble bar, gold touches throughout the venue and a large colourful mosaic along the main wall.

Each dish is a simple combination of flavours put together with passion and respect for each ingredient used. The chefs use quality products that pay tribute to iconic French recipes and cooking techniques. All dishes are perfect for sharing.

The signature appetisers include foie gras (of course) served with mango chutney and brioche toast and the Sel & Miel salad of seared tuna, zucchini marmalade and quail eggs. French onion soup is available as is the decadent mille-feuille caramélizé which is featured with a twist (spoiler: it has crème Chantilly dolce).

Excuse us now while we feast on our favourite French classic tarte tatin (an upside down tart with caramelised apples), Sel & Miel’s signature dessert. Bon appétit.
Open daily noon-3pm, 5.30pm-10pm. The Ritz-Carlton Doha, West Bay Lagoon (5576 4278).
