We may have only recently recovered from the big New Year celebrations. And we’ve all heard the famous saying, “When one party ends, another one starts.” (We just made that up).

Chinese New Year is just around the corner and there’s no reason to not get deeply rooted in Chinese culture and celebrate this very special occasion.

Hakkasan Doha will celebrate Chinese New Year with an exclusive menu where each ingredient is symbolic of the festival and used as part of the celebratory dishes associated with it.

Homophones are especially prevalent in Chinese, and while most languages have homophones, they play a very important role in the Chinese culture.

Much of the symbolism inherent in this cuisine stems from the homophones associated with each food.

So when you eat dishes during Chinese New Year, each one represents a particular wish or hope for the coming year.

One of the most important festivals in China, Hakkasan Doha will celebrate this auspicious occasion for almost an entire month until February 24 with a specially curated menu featuring traditional specialties enjoyed in China during this time.

Consisting of three courses, the menu is priced at QR438 per person including a welcome drink for a minimum of two guests.

Highlights of the menu include Peking duck with crispy bean curd and mango, dim sum duo, wok-fried lobster with Chinese chives, stir-fried lamb tenderloin with shiitake and roasted jasmine chicken with sticky rice. For dessert, guests can indulge in the wealth pot and fortune macarons.

Hakkasan is also paying homage to the wishing tree tradition inspired by the Lam Tsuen tree in Hong Kong. Guests are invited to write their wishes for 2019 on the red ribbons and hang them on the wooden latticework in the restaurant for good luck.

What do we wish for, you ask? Many more delicious Chinese New Years, of course.
QR438 (per person, for minimum two people). Until Feb 24, 6pm-11.30pm. Hakkasan Doha, The St. Regis Doha, West Bay Lagoon (4446 0170).
