A1 nights at Best Western Plus:
The biggest hip-hop party in Doha should not really need an introduction. Expect massive tunes from resident DJs, twerking, international guests and a bass-heavy Friday night out. Spectacle and performance are important here, and if you’ve ever wanted to party like you were in a rap video, this is the place to come.
Ladies free before midnight (QR100 after), gents QR100. Fridays. 10pm-2am. Best Western Plus, Old Salata, Al Safilia Street, www.facebook.com/A1nights (7712 3440).
Dinner Show at The Club:
The St. Regis Doha has been the unofficial home of jazz in Qatar for a few years now and live music continues to dictate what happens here. An old school jazz club vibe means music happens in front of appreciative diners as part of a dinner show. Jazz names such as Judi Jackson, Michael Pigneguy and Davis Whitfield are in the line-up and you should look out for visiting dignitaries from America’s great jazz capitals in one-off shows as well.
From QR695 per couple including three-course set meal and house grape. Tue-Sat. 7pm-late. The Club at The St. Regis Doha, West Bay, www.stregisdoha.com (4446 0000).
Doha Hustle at Nozomi:
Let us say right here and on the record that Van McCoy’s The Hustle is one of Time Out’s all-time favourite tunes, so any night that is seemingly inspired by it automatically gets at least one thumb up. A soul, funk and disco soundtrack provided by Doha’s enduringly popular Kinky D is enough to upgrade that to two thumbs up from us. It all happens in the London import of a Japanese lounge that picked up our Best Newcomer award at the 2016 Time Out Doha Restaurant Awards, so expect to see us hustlin’ down there.
Free. Thursdays. 9pm-2am. Nozomi, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl-Qatar, www.facebook.com/dohahustle (4035 5089).
Dream Box at Illusion:
The rooftop venue at Marsa Malaz Kempinski is one of those must-be-seen-to-be-believed nightspots that make it onto bucket lists of things to do. The old-world-meets-new interiors are designed by the team behind some of Dubai’s most progressive venues and tend to bring out a glam Doha crowd. Live performances, cool tunes and a stylised setting make this unlike any other night out in the city.
Free (reservations essential). Thursdays. 8pm-late. Illusion, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl - Qatar, www.illusiondoha.com (4035 5757).
Gents' Night at Noir Lounge:
There are good promotions at the Melia Doha lounge all week long and we could have picked any as evidence of the positive hipster vibes here. Because there are so few gents’ nights in Doha, however, we’ve selected this Monday night session. While residents play the best of R&B it is the men who get discounted beverages for a change. Two-for-one deals between 9pm and 2am come immediately after the “We Pay Half Your Bill” quadruple happy hour, meaning this can be a very cheap night.
Free. Mondays. 9pm-2am. Noir Lounge, Melia Doha, Diplomatic Area, West Bay, www.noirdoha.com (5596 1414).
Girls' Night Out! at Glo:
DJ Beats takes residency at this chic, Manhattan-style mixed beverage lounge every Wednesday to Friday. It's the midweek ladies' night that catches our eye like a neon glow stick on a dark night, though. Two free beverages for ladies and a discounted menu with QR25 sips all night. Ideal for shaking off the week's cobwebs.
Free. Wednesdays. 5pm-2am. Glo Cocktail Lounge, Marriott Marquis City Center, Al Dafna, www.marriottmarquisdohadining.com (4419 5000).
Golden Saturdays at Irish Harp:
If that 80s and 90s music is a guilty pleasure you can't shake off then follow your ears into a weekend party at this Irish-themed pub. Familiar sounds and a complimentary drink for ladies is enough to warm up a party at the seaside hotel.
Free. Saturdays. 8pm-late. Irish Harp, Sheraton Grand Doha, Al Corniche Street, www.irishharpdoha.com (4485 3000).
Happy Hour at Habanos:
You should already know the drill from a gentleman's club-style bar like this. If you don't, then expect rich mahogany furnishings, low sofas and leather armchairs with a generous selection of Cubans lining the walls and, of course, some of that legendary Ritz-Carlton service. A generous triple happy hour has discounted beverages. A good spot if you're after comfort over twerking on your night out.
Free. Daily. 5-8pm. Habanos, Ritz-Carlton Doha, West Bay Lagoon, www.ritzcarlton.com (4484 8000).
Karaoke Night at Champions Sports Bar:
Look, we’re not going to apologise for the fact that we love to watch live football on the 47 screens at this mammoth Marriott Marquis sports bar. If you like your entertainment to have a more musical or interactive element then seek out the microphone on karaoke night. The first Monday of every month sees a high standard and rewards for performers who come in to show off their inner Adele. Quiz nights the following Monday are worth a look, too.
Free. First Monday of every month. 5pm-2am. Champions. Marriott Marquis City Center, Al Dafna, www.marriottmarquisdohadining.com, (4419 5000).
Live at Admiral's Club:
Supermodels and beautiful people take note – it is extremely possible to be both pretty AND friendly. The Ritz-Carlton’s Admiral’s Club is all the proof we need. The gorgeous setting in a private marina, surrounded by luxury yachts, is a beacon of style and elegance, but not at all snooty. Thursdays and Fridays sees live music sessions from special Irish band Coelta twice a month. Plus performances by Over Your Head, Bluestone, Sand Tunes, Doha Band, 50 Degree, Dave Duchette, Vertuoso, The Jack Daniels Trio and more.
Free. Thursdays and Fridays. 7.30pm-11.30pm. Admiral's Club, Ritz-Carlton Doha, West Bay Lagoon, www.ritzcarlton.com (4484 8000).
Paint The Town at The Grill:
Innovation and originality score highly with us at Time Out, so we love that the Grand Hyatt is trying something different on Tuesday nights at The Grill. Finger food, canapés and a couple of beverages are all quite routine for a restaurant and lounge such as this, but the creativity comes in the shape of a hands-on painting session where you can release your inner artist and follow a step-by-step painting lesson.
QR250. Tuesdays. 6.30-10.30pm. The Grill, Grand Hyatt Doha, West Bay Lagoon, www.hyatt.com (4448 1240).
Pink Wednesdays at Strata Lounge:
The 56th floor lounge at InterContinental Doha – The City is one of the most show-offy nightspots in town. Incredible views and sleek interiors turn up the X factor and the promotion for ladies’ night on a Wednesday could make you swoon as much as the breath-taking views. All ladies will be offered two free drinks, but just one will walk away with the free designer handbag that’s raffled off every week. Kerching!
Free. Wednesdays 9pm-2am. Strata Lounge, InterContinental Doha - The City, West Bay, www.ihg.com (4015 8888).
Skinny and Shims at Wahm:
Show up and show off. That is the ethos behind the recently-renovated poolside lounge at the W Doha hotel in West Bay. Already one of the focal points of nightlife in the city, it is all the more important you get down to see the glam ladies’ night on a Monday. Three free drinks and matching food for ladies is further reason (should you need any). But trust us – you don’t need an excuse to come here.
Free. Mondays. 9.30pm-late. Wahm, W Doha Hotel, West Bay, www.wahmdoha.com (4453 5323).
Social Sunday at Paloma:
Texas, Mexico: meet Doha. We’re sure you’re going to get along just fine. This lively Tex-Mex restaurant is frequently packed, thanks in no small part to the crowd-pleasing work of resident band Soul Shake. With more than 60 years of floor-filling singalong favourites in their locker, they know what a Sunday night crowd want – and that includes karaoke. Get on stage and enjoy your five minutes of stardom.
Free. Sundays. 5pm-1am. Paloma, Intercontinental Doha, West Bay, www.ihg.com (4484 4745).
Sparkling Fridays at The Lounge:
Great DJs, ladies’ nights, after-brunch parties and promotions throughout the week make this Kempinski Residences hangout a popular lounge. Reminiscent of suave London venues, live music elevates it from straight hotel hangout to something altogether more interesting. While we like the midweek offerings, it’s always good to add some sparkle to your weekends. Ladies will be given two complimentary glasses of bubbly upon arrival on Friday nights.
Free. Fridays. 8pm-2am. The Lounge, Kempinski Residences and suites, West Bay, www.kempinski.com, (4405 3325).
SUBCulture Mondays at Lava Lounge:
A chic indoors and an outdoor terrace overlooking the Arabian Gulf make the InterContinental’s club-lounge one of the biggest and best attended nightspots in the city. It helps that it has nightly promotions such as this weekly hip-hop night with DJ Shadi. Everybody can get their groove on to the latest tracks while ladies also get two free beverages.
Free. Mondays. 8pm-2am. Lava Lounge, Intercontinental Doha, West Bay, www.ihg.com (6603 9127).
Sundowner Happy Hour at Ipanema:
Your thoughts of a dainty girl from Ipanema may be shaken slightly when you take in the mass of meat eaten by guests at this Brazilian churrascaria. Arrive pre-dinner, though, and it is an atmospheric Brazilian lounge with discounted beverages (some with complimentary snacks) and cool beats. Sunset happy hour, the South American way.
From QR30. Daily. 5.30-7.30pm. Ipanema, Marriott Marquis City Center, West Bay, www.marriottmarquisdohadining.com, (4419 5000).
The Backyard at Sheraton Grand:
There is a distinct laidback cool to the live music sessions on the Sheraton’s lawns. An easy-going crowd kick back in jeans and scuffed sneakers listening to accoustic tunes and lounge beneath twinkling fairy lights on the Sheraton terrace. Okay, the sneakers might not actually be very scuffed, but they are as scuffed as they can be in a place like Doha, and that is part of the backyard charm of this innoative and cool night of live music. Tickets include one beverage.
Free for ladies before 8.30pm. QR65 (ladies), QR100 (gents). Fridays, 7pm-late. Sheraton Doha, Al Corniche Street, www.facebook.com/TheBackYardDoha (3300 3839).
The Laughter Factory at Grand Hyatt Doha:
The funniest night out in Doha is as close to a great time guarantee as you’re likely to be offered. Guest comedians are brought over from London’s famous Comedy Store with the express intention of tickling your funny bone every month. A great chance to see rising stars and long-established veterans of the laughter business.
QR140. Monthly; next event October 17-18. 8pm-10pm. Grand Hyatt Doha, West Bay Lagoon, www.thelaughterfactory.com, (+971 50 878 6728).
The Longest Happy Hour in Doha at The Den:
It is quite a boast, isn't it? Although considering the deal runs all night, every night, we actually think it might just be a good value bar with low cost beverages that will set you back just QR30. A resident pianist tickles the ivories to the tune of The Beatles, The Beach Boys and even a few TV theme song favourites as well.
Free. Daily. 5pm-1am. The Den, Shangri-La Doha, West Bay, www.shangri-la.com (4429 5000).
Throwback Thursdays at Mix Bar:
There are discounted beverages at QR30 between 5-9pm, but it's really the fun ’80s and ’90s soundtrack that fixes a smile firmly on our face as the perfect weekend-launcher. Mix Bar has an enormous alfresco terrace with the potential to make for some of the busiest nights in Doha, and is a much-needed nightspot in the Freej bin Mahmoud neighbourhood.
Free. Thursdays. 59m-2am. Mix Bar, Westin Doha, Fereej Bin Mahmoud, www.mixbardoha.com (4492 1555).
Voodoo Hour at Trader Vic's:
We might have said this before but the floral shirts, fruity mixed drinks and unpretentious crowd at this Polynesian-themed lounge make for a cheesily delightful night out. Working on the assumption that happy should not be limited to an hour, this is 240 minutes of discounted beverages, live music and tiki everything. In our opinion, any night where somebody in a grass skirt tries to give you a garland of exotic flowers to dance around in is worth exploring.
Free. Daily. 4-8pm. Trader Vic's, Hilton Doha, Diplomatic Street, www.tradervicsdoha.com, (4423 3118).
Y.O.L.O. at Crystal Lounge:
You only live once. It is impossible to argue with the logic behind the W Doha’s signature lounge. It is a philosophy which has seen it host some legendary nights out in Doha. Look for superstar DJ Bob Sinclar turning up in October (October 7, mark it in your diary now) but can be relied upon most nights of the week to supply ample beats. Y.O.L.O. is the regular Sunday night party and sees resident DJ Tobas Sabido spinning old school tunes.
Free. 10pm-2am. Crystal Lounge, W Doha Hotel, West Bay, www.crystaldoha.com (4453 5135).
