Tinie Tempah in Doha 2016

Tinie Tempah arrives in Doha and proves he’s more relevant than ever

Tinie Tempah in Doha 2016

There’s no denying Tinie Tempah’s star status. Brit Awards, number one hit singles, performances alongside Snoop Dogg and a collaboration with Swedish House Mafia are proof enough of that.

But after the release of his second album Demonstration in 2013, he was somewhat under-the-radar. He never completely dropped off the musical map – there was still a single here, a collaboration there, but no particularly attention-grabbing releases.

Until, that is, May last year, when Tempah dropped single Not Letting Go, featuring vocalist of the moment Jess Glynne, followed by a string of sharp collaborations, including rapping alongside garage artist Katy B in house producer KDA’s track Turn the Music Louder (Rumble). His most recent single Girls Like, released last month, features Swedish sensation Zara Larsson (if you don’t know her name, you’ll know her track Never Forget You).

Tempah’s work with such a diverse range of talent is as exciting as it is refreshing. He clearly has his finger firmly on the beat of chart-topping music, so his much-awaited appearance on the same bill as Lost Frequencies (Reality; Are You with Me) this month at the InterContinental Doha beachside is more than fitting. Is a collaboration between the two on the cards? We can only hope.
