The Ministry of Public Health is set to begin giving out COVID-19 booster doses to those who received their second dose more than eight months ago.
From Wednesday September 15, high-risk individuals will be given a third dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine.
The booster programme will initially focus on those over the age of 65, those with chronic conditions, and frontline healthcare workers.
According to the MOPH, the latest clinical evidence shows that the protective immunity from the vaccine gradually starts to decline after a period of eight months.
The booster doses will raise the level of protection against variants, including the Delta variant.

All eligible individuals will be contacted by the Primary Health Care Corporation to set an appointment. If you have had your vaccine more than eight months ago and are yet to be contacted, you can call the PHCC on 4027 7077 to get an appointment.
People will need to get their booster vaccine within 12 months of their second dose to maintain their gold vaccinated status on Ehteraz.
The news comes after the Ministry of Public Health began distributing third doses to immunodeficient people at the end of August.
So far, 78.1 percent of the total population of Qatar have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
