Anyone who has travelled through Hamad International Airport (HIA) knows how fantastic it is, from the new safety measures introduced during the coronavirus pandemic to the amazing public art.
And now HIA has been recognised on the world stage, after ranking first at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2021.
Alongside being named the best airport in the world, HIA was given the titles of best airport in the Middle East, best airport with 25 to 35 million passengers, and best airport staff in the Middle East.
HIA also was given a nod for COVID-19 airport excellence.

Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the chief operating officer at Hamad International Airport, said, “This is a truly remarkable achievement for HIA and the State of Qatar, and an endorsement from our travellers for our commitment to service excellence.
“HIA continues to serve as a global benchmark for airports around the world, thanks to the dedication and collaboration of our team and stakeholders.”
In 2020, HIA was named the third best airport in the world.
New safety measures in the airport include the addition of PPE vending machines, and contactless check-in and baggage drop.
Back in December, it became the first airport in the Middle East to be given a 5-star COVID-19 airport safety rating by Skytrax.
