New precautionary measures undertaken to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Qatar

Various ministries in Qatar have come together to implement and extend several precautionary and safety measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

A decision to suspend all commercial and service activities during the Eid-al-Fitr holidays, with the exception of specific sectors and activities, has been taken.

Effective Friday May 22, all citizens and residents are required to install the EHTERAZ app on smartphones before leaving the house for any reason.

More than two people will not be allowed in any car with the exception of the following cases where a maximum of three will be allowed – transportation in taxis and limousines and transfers in private vehicles driven by drivers of the family.

Ambulances and vehicles of the Public Health Ministry and the security and military authorities are excluded from this decision

As a continuation of previously taken measures, people transported by buses will continue to be reduced to half the capacity of the bus while taking all other precautionary measures.

Practising sport will be considered if undertaken in areas close to the residence, however gatherings are still prohibited and necessary precautions of wearing masks and maintaining safe distance must be taken.

This decision is effective from Tuesday May 19.

Also effective from May 19 until May 30, all shops and commercial activities, except food and catering shops, pharmacies, restaurants providing delivery service, will remain closed. The Ministry of Commerce shall determine the other necessary activities exempted from this decision.

In case of non-compliance with the above decisions, penalties stipulated in Decree-Law No. (17) of 1990 regarding prevention of infectious diseases shall be applied to violators by imprisonment for not exceeding three years and a fine not exceeding QR200,000 or one of them will be applicable.
