Doha is one of the world’s must-visit cities in 2019, report reveals

It’s official: Doha is one of the must-visit destinations this year – ranking as one of the top 15 cities by Forbes.

The capital was featured among Texas, Berlin and Perth in the list, which listed 2019’s rising stars in the tourism industry.

Notable absences include New York, London and Paris, cementing Doha’s place among the very best in the world.

The high praise comes on the back of a complete overhaul with the construction of several new sports stadiums for the FIFA World Cup 2022, well-connected metro systems, trams in smaller areas, new hotels, new interchanges and highways and other infrastructural projects.

“The upcoming completion of the Msheireb Downtown Doha, a sustainable, mixed-use residential, commercial, and cultural complex, will be anchored by a Mandarin Oriental and is already an attraction for the four heritage homes that comprise the Msheireb Museums,” the Forbes list quotes.

Qatar is also big on cultural preservation with several sites being restored like the Al Ruwais Police Station, certain sites inside the Qatar Foundation premises, the legendary Souq Waqif which is one of Doha’s top cultural and tourist destinations and many more. “Careful attention to cultural preservation makes Doha feel more authentic.”

Qatar Airways also has a stopover programme that allows guests to access five star hotels for free along with opening up visa regulations for more than 80 nationalities.

As far as culture goes, Qatar is a hub. From the Falcon Hospital (yes, there really is an entire hospital dedicated only to falcons) at the lively Souq Waqif and the wedding cake-shaped building that’s a cultural centre to Katara Cultural Village which is an entire area dedicated to culture to the UNESCO Heritage Site Al Zubarah, there’s so much to see, absorb and learn.

Besides being incredibly interesting, a look into Qatar’s rich past will keep any culture vulture happy.

Whether it’s food, nightlife, outdoor activities or just plain relaxation, Qatar has something for everyone and it’s no surprise it’s one of the top destinations to visit in the world this year.
