Restaurants and cafés in Qatar to open from Friday May 28

Only vaccinated individuals will be able to dine indoors

Restaurants and cafés in Qatar are set to reopen from Friday May 28, the Ministry of Public Health has announced.

All residents and citizens will be able to enjoy outdoor dining, which will be limited at 30 percent capacity.

Only those who have been fully vaccinated will be able to dine indoors, and only at eateries that have been certified as part of the Clean Qatar programme.

Capacity indoors is also restricted to 30 percent.

The Clean Qatar programme was introduced in September last year, and involves following guidelines such as staggering shifts, not allowing walk-ins, and using contactless menus.

The Ministry of Public Health’s announcement did not specify a table limit in restaurants, but social gatherings will be limited to five vaccinated people indoors and ten vaccinated people outdoors.

Restaurants will reopen as part of the first phase of restrictions being lifted in Qatar.

This phase will last at least three weeks, and will be followed by further restriction easements, which are expected to begin on Friday June 18, Friday July 9, and Friday July 30.

From June 18, outdoor dining will be increased to 40 percent capacity, but indoor dining restrictions will remain the same.

Indoor dining will open up to unvaccinated individuals from July 9, but 75 percent of all customers must be vaccinated. Capacity will remain at 30 percent.

The Government Communications Office has not yet revealed details about what phase four, which is meant to start on July 30, will look like, but it is meant to constitute a ‘return to normal’.
