Colour party
Feeling a bit bland? Get out your colourful duds for the launch of monthly Colour Parties at Lava Lounge on June 3, where you’ll be entertained by visiting DJ Paul Mendez. Joining him is Lava resident Laura Love, from 6pm-2am. There’s no entrance fee, and if you miss them, you can still check out the ladies’ night at Lava every Tuesday, where girls get one free welcome martini, and then two-for-the-price-of-one all night long. Or, if you’re airline crew, come along on Sundays for a 50 per cent discount on all drinks and food.

Open-mic comedy
Back by popular demand, Doha’s first amateur comedy showcase returns. After a brief hiatus, the city’s best amateur stand-up comics brought the giggles in May, and promise to continue doing so the last Wednesday of every month – that’s June 29 this time around. Held at Colombiano Coffee House at Ramada Signal, the fun starts at 7pm. Tickets are QR30, which includes a free drink, available at Colombiano Coffee. Want to try your hand behind the big mic? To get on the line-up, check out Stand-Up Comedy Qatar, a new coalition of comedians in Qatar. Members include such Doha favourites as Halal Bilal and Mohammed Fahad Kamal. For more information, check out the webpage at www.sucq.org.

Battle of the DJs
DJ Roger Choueiry goes head to head with Master J every Friday night in a musical battle royale at 7 in La Cigale. On his own, Choueiry rocks Madison Piano Bar every Sunday night, where there is no entrance fee or minimum charge and ladies get a complimentary welcome drink. Meanwhile, DJ Master J owns 7 on Thursday nights. And, when not wearing his headphones, DJ Master J is otherwise known as Jared McCulloch, the event organiser behind some of the biggest beach parties and shows in Doha in recent months (Big Day Out in April and Bryan Adams in December to name a few).

Live music at the Pearl
The Pearl-Qatar isn’t just for fine dining and expensive shopping any more – with more venues opening up to the nightlife possibilities, there is music and happy hours galore to sink your teeth (and straws) into. Two of our top picks also happen to be at the two big winners from our first ever Time Out Doha Restaurant Awards, held last month – Pampano, our Restaurant of the Year, hosts the Tabasco Latino Live Band on Tuesday and Friday nights, who entertain with a mix of Spanish, English and French tunes. Our Best Newcomer, Tse Yang, hosts a melting pot of tunes from jazz and blues to ’60s, ’70s and beyond in their lounge bar Monday to Friday.
