National Museum of Qatar launches two crowdsourced virtual exhibitions

The National Museum of Qatar has launched two crowdsourced virtual exhibitions.

As museums and galleries across the globe closed their doors earlier this year, the NMoQ called on its visitors to send in photos, illustrations and sketches of their time in self-isolation.

The Habitats and Shelters exhibition uses these community-sourced photos to explore how the community adapted their living spaces during lockdown.

A second exhibition, entitled Qatar’s Culinary Journey, will instead examine traditional Qatari cuisine, from karak to gahwa to mathrooba, harees and other dishes, and how the participant learnt how to make it.

Sheikha Amna bint Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani, Director of the NMoQ, said: “The series of exhibitions was launched as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a creative outlet for our digital audience during these challenging times.

“We invite members of the community to explore these unique collections that provide fascinating insights into how we have all adapted to and endured the current pandemic.”
