Art aficionados have one more venue to tick off their list and this is a big one – the Qatar Foundation premises.
Throughout the year, Qatar Foundation hosts public tours which take place periodically. The Art Trail programme is led by QF art specialists and aims to showcase some of the stunning artwork commissioned for the various structures across Education City.
As part of this programme, the next tour of award-winning prayer rugs is set to take place this weekend on Saturday February 23 at the 2015 building, more commonly known as the QF Headquarters (it’s the only high-rise building in QF, you can’t miss it).
The initiative intends to inspire creativity among Qatar’s community, for all age groups, while increasing artistic appreciation and awareness and also providing opportunities for social interaction.
Previous tours organised through the current edition of the Art Trail initiative have included Qatar National Library and the Minaretein Building (Education City Mosque), which featured a modern prayer rug exhibition that recently concluded.
Showcasing the work of students from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), a partner university of QF, the exhibition was divided into two sections – the finalists of the VCUarts Qatar Materials Library Modern Prayer Design Competition in 2017, and MFA in Design students and faculty members who attended a week-long workshop in the Netherlands in 2018.
Besides being an educational hub, QF is also a platform for local and regional artists and designers to showcase their work. It is home to many art centres and galleries including Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and VCUarts Qatar.
