The Complete Oxygen Facial incorporates the Amala technique, which is a basic treatment that aims to cleanse the skin. There are two different types, however, as one is for brightening while the other rejuvenates. In this case, I chose the rejuvenating option.
Step by step
The professional therapist kickstarts the Amala facial – named because it uses products from the brand Amala – by cleansing the face with a hydrating jasmine cleanser, followed by toner and then a skin analysis. In my case, the therapist recommended a weekly facial scrub to help get rid of comedones (the primary sign of acne). She also pointed out areas I should tend to more vigorously. My skin type was determined as oily to combination so she used the suitable blue lotus purifying products. If your skin is sensitive and dry, she’d use hydrating products, while for dull or sagging skin, rejuvenating products are used.
Once this was decided, my therapist set up the steamer to open up the pores and then applied a Rhassoul clay mask. After the mask is removed, she uses the steamer a second time and then does the extraction with tea tree oil which has antioxidants and helps cool the redness. Then toner is applied.
The facial is finished with an oxygen moisturiser that is applied with a small pipe that blows air onto the skin so the serum can be well absorbed. Finally, a hydrating gel and blending cream are applied.
• It’s a highly customisable treatment that works to address your specific needs.
• The extraction is not painful at all.
• I left with firmer skin.
• It’s a fairly long treatment so, don’t go when you’re in a rush.
One of the unique features of this facial is the use of tea tree oil. During extractions most facials are quite painful and will leave you with reddish skin, which is why it is not recommended to do facials on the day of an important event. However, the Complete Oxygen Facial was not at all painful and I did not see any redness on my face afterwards, my skin just felt firmer. Two days later a friend thought I was wearing make-up because my skin looked so smooth. I wasn’t. Bingo.
