The Den

A cosy spot with a great food and beverage menu

Time Out Says

Going out for a few drinks usually means loud, crowded places unless you’re heading to The Den at JW Marriott Marquis. The spot is perfectly small, cosy and ideal for a switch off from the city hustle. As soon as we step in, we’re clear on one thing – The Den does full justice to its name.

Essentially a European-style pub, dim lights, dark, masculine colours and wooden panels surround the space. This is clearly an adult hangout.

You can either grab a stool at the moderately busy bar or settle down into the cushioned corner seats if you’re planning to stick around. The bar is non-smoking, but there is a designated area just outside the venue.

The bar menu has an extensive drink selection including some premium shorts and signature mixed beverages. Try one of the latter – there are plenty of interesting ones including something called the smoky Mexican. If you’re looking for a unique mixed beverage, there’s something called the Arabic colada. As contradictory as that sounds, we’re intrigued by the idea of a date-infused drink.

While this isn’t exactly a dinner spot, there are sufficient options for hunger pangs. We see dishes from around the world including quesadillas, Wagyu sliders and a few Arabic options such as hummus, moutabal and muhammara among other mainstays such as the mini skewers and tempura prawns. The staff make suggestions, and we decide to go with their recommendations. Our host is fantastic, and even brings us a delightful chocolate ganache to curb our cravings.

Relaxing music from the ’90s is playing in the background. We stick around long enough to watch the Cuban band perform live at 9pm.

The happy hours are from 5pm to 9pm and then midnight until closing (except on Thursdays) with a special menu.

For an intimate catch up or a much-needed lazy evening out with friends or colleagues, look no further.
