Tahitian Village

A Polynesian-style extension of a popular venue

Time Out Says

We’ve always been fans of Trader Vic’s (especially of the epic cheeseballs) but the recent Polynesian island-inspired extension is making us come back more regularly. We pass by the indoor area where all the action is, but sit outdoors where it’s less crowded.

The outdoor section is far more chilled out, with plenty of seating options in different areas. The décor is mainly wood, bamboo and macramé. There’s enough colour to keep it lively and the design doesn’t outshine the experience here, which is a good thing.

The drinks list is pretty extensive and it’s the same as what Trader Vic’s offers, so all the classic mixed beverages the venue is renowned for are on offer here, too.

Happy hours are on from Saturday to Thursday and between 4pm and 8pm, there are special prices on our favourite signature beverages.

Tahitian Village is buzzing and it’s a good kind of busy on the weekend. The beats are almost irresistible and we can see every table filled with people who just can’t stop grooving (us included, even though we’re embarrassing ourselves just a little bit).

The music is just what we need on Thursday – tropical tunes and even some Afrobeats thrown in every now and then.

The Asian-Polynesian menu is the same as Trader’s, and we’re quite happy about that. There are plenty of sharing-style dishes such as the pupu platter and the island platter, and a selection of mains and maki rolls.

We try the pupu platter which has some impressive cheese bing rolls and very tender, beautifully barbecued short ribs among a few other bites. The volcano roll is perfectly spicy and crunchy.

There’s a band right next door in Trader Vic’s and if we’re ever craving a fun, indoor, sit-down dining experience with live music, popping across is the easiest thing to do.

The service is efficient even though it’s an incredibly busy night. We’re making requests every few minutes including asking for blankets.

It is not at all surprising this has become a regular destination for every partygoer in Doha. It’s absolutely ideal for big groups of people who are looking to have a great night out.
