August is a month of fun as the Qatar Tourism Authority has announced a summer festival lasting the whole month. Entertainment City is your go-to spot, with games and rides to keep the little ones happy. But the fun doesn’t stop here. There’s comedy at the Qatar National Convention Centre and live music concerts, featuring some of the most famous Arabic stars. Participating malls and shops will also get involved in a shopping discount bonanza throughout the month.

Entertainment City
If you’ve got kids, there’s only one thing you need to know. For the month of August you’re living at Entertainment City. Inflatable rides, arcade games, soft play areas and stage performances from Dora the Explorer, the Lazy Town crew, Barney the Dinosaur and the Teletubbies will keep little ones intrigued. Don’t get us wrong, there’s things for the grown-ups as well. The trade fair boasts a huge range of shops and stalls from all corners of the world, selling everything from make-up and jewellery to clothes for kids and toys. And once it’s all over, there’s somewhere to grab a bite to eat before it all starts again the following day. Entertainment City, Lusail.

Shopping promotions
Calling all shopaholics! The Qatar Summer Festival will feel like all of your holidays have come at once. Participating malls and The Pearl are going to be offering sales and promotions all month long. And that’s not all – there’s a massive two million riyals’ worth of prizes to be won, including four brand-new BMWs and Mini Coopers! So if your car is looking a bit worse for wear then make sure you get involved! Various shops and malls.

Shows and comedy
This year’s Qatar Summer Festival is hosting some of the biggest stars in Arabic music. Heavy-weights such as pop icon Nancy Ajram, Cheb Khaled (famed for performing Desert Rose with Sting), X-Factor Arabia Judge Ragheb Alama and Qatar’s very own Fahad al-Kubaisi are just a few of the artists performing at the two concerts on Fri 21 Aug and Fri 28 Aug. If it’s comedy you’re after then you should stay at the Qatar National Convention Centre on Sat 29 Aug. Internet comedy sensation Bader Saleh and Qatari funny-man Hamad Al Amani are just a few of the acts heading our way. Qatar National Convention Center, Education City (4470 7000).
