Two new exhibitions open at Doha Fire Station

Artists from the residency programme are showing off their work

Good news, art lovers – two new exhibitions have just opened at the Fire Station.

First up is Keep Running: AI, Art and Qatari Heritage, which features the work of current artist in residence Dr. James She.

She, an associate professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, created a series of AI paintings of horses over the past year.

The portraits “depict distinguishable features and forms of horses while creating aesthetic value and even capture sentimental reactions”, and use Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) technology.

The artworks were created as part of a collaboration with the university, and the gallery opened today (Wednesday March 10).

You’ll also be able to check out Mohammed Atiq Al Dosari: Attention which examines the detrimental impact of waste on the environment.

Dosari was a resident at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in Brooklyn, New York, in 2020, and his exhibition is based on what he witnessed there.

He drew inspiration from Indian philosopher Osho, and has turned waste material into something beautiful to raise awareness about the global challenge of waste.

Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director, Fire Station, said: “The Fire Station is delighted to unveil two incredibly thought-provoking exhibitions that explore current global advances and challenges.

“We look forward to welcoming the wider community to explore these modern themes from a refreshing perspective and to reconsider how we can each play our part in alleviating the global waste crisis.”

Keep Running: AI, Art and Qatari Heritage will be on at Gallery 3 and you can check out  Mohammed Al Atiq: Attention at Gallery 4. Both exhibitions will run from Wednesday March 10 until Wednesday April 7 2021.

While you’re there, don’t forget to check out Grey Times which explores the artists’ experiences in lockdown.
Wed Mar 10-Wed Apr 7. Sat-Thu 9am-7pm, Fri 1.30pm-7pm. Gallery 3 and 4, Fire Station, Wadi Al Sail (4422 4222).
