Al markhiya trio of Arabian artists

Al Markhiya Gallery, behind Zaatar wa Zeit, Souq Waqif (4442 8007)
Three Middle Eastern artists will be presenting new works in a joint exhibition. Lebanese painter and graphic artist Rafik Majzoub, Iraqi painter and designer Saddam Aljuamily and Syrian graphic artist Yasser Safi are all involved.

My Rock Stars: Volume 1

Renowned Moroccan photographer and artist Hassan Hajjaj, who is based in London, presents for the first time in Doha this photographic portraiture series of personal muses and unsung heroes from musicians to fashion designers, from capoeira masters to buskers.

Okwui Enwezor discussion

Mathaf invites Okwui Enwezor, director of Haus de Kunst in Munich, to address the notion of “off center” models of partnerships and institutional development. The event runs from 6pm-8pm and is in English with Arabic translation also available.

This photographic exhibition will present a range of black and white works by the late and great Bolton (northern England) photographer Harold Crompton Robinson as part of the Qatar-UK 2013 celebrations.

Rhys Himsworth’s solo exhibition at Katara Art Centre will open on this night at 7pm. The Doha-based artist has created a number of forward-thinking installations.

Once Upon a Butterfly

This is a moving solo exhibition of paintings by Lebanese artist Said Baalbaki who migrated from Lebanon during the civil war and again left Berlin following the fall of the wall. The exhibition tells the story of the artist himself – the migrating butterfly.

Crossing boundaries

This lecture series is being presented by media artist Joachim Sauter from 6pm. Since the early 1980s, Joachim has been working as a media artist and designer focusing on digital technologies and how they can be used to express content, form and narration. It’s free and open to the public.

Fantastic Landscapes

From 3pm to 6pm children ages 3-12 and their families can explore art works by modern Arab artists, participate in storytelling and games and join in building activities to create a fantasy landscape inspired by Qatar.

BBC Symphony Orchestra Concert

Works by three of England’s finest composers – Ralph Vaughan Williams, Edward Elgar and Benjamin Britten – are being performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra in their first Doha concert at the end of this month.
