Shop Qatar 2019 is bigger and better
Qatar’s biggest and most exciting shopping festival, Shop Qatar, is back for the third year with a host of immersive events from the fashion, lifestyle and entertainment sectors.

Bargain hunters can enjoy discounts on international brands with a chance to win cash and car prizes worth QR3 million. Discounts for shoppers are applicable on a range of consumer goods including clothes, electronics, cosmetics and accessories for men, women and children. All this month, malls will be impressive and lively entertainment venues for the whole family.

The festival’s 14 participating retail partners are Al Mirqab Mall, AlKhor Mall, City Centre, Dar Al Salam Mall, Doha Festival City, Gulf Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona Mall, Landmark Mall, Mall of Qatar, Royal Plaza, Tawar Mall, The Gate Mall & The Pearl-Qatar.

More than 50 hotels across Qatar have special offers throughout this month. The offers include discounted room nights, promotions at F&B outlets and health club services as well as free airport transfers.

For the first time in Shop Qatar, a unique new addition called Design District offers a hub for the festival’s fashion-forward events and activations. Held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), the District features a colourful showcase of pop-up shops, cafés and more than 20 international fashion shows, plenty of workshops and masterclasses (including beauty and fashion) all under one roof between January 5 and 12.

Shop Qatar also has authentic shopping experiences starting from shopping tours at Souq Waqif. Those interested in learning how to find their way around the traditional marketplace can join guided tours that run every Saturday for QR200 per adult. If you’ve ever wondered how to haggle your way through the spice markets, this is the perfect opportunity.
Until Jan 20. www.shopqatar.qa.

EU beauty

happy news for travel enthusiasts – Qatar Airways is adding aircraft upgrades and increased frequencies for its popular European destinations this winter. Business and leisure passengers to Helsinki, Stockholm and Manchester can enjoy greater travel options. The frequency of flights to the airline’s second gateway to London, Gatwick, has also been increased from 14 to 16 weekly flights. And we’ll leave you with this last piece of exciting news while you grab your travel diary: Qatar Airways is soon launching direct services to Valletta, Malta.

Berlin Wall in Doha

this is quite serious – an actual piece of the historic Berlin Wall is right here in Doha. The installation is part of a collaboration between Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) and Qatar Museums. Once forming part of the wall that divided East and West Germany for three decades, the displayed panel measures just over a meter wide, over 3.5m high and 2m thick. The concrete is reinforced with steel bars, and covered in spray painted graffiti that conveys messages of hope, freedom and change. So, just in case you never made it to Germany, Georgetown University is just around the corner.
Free. Open daily 8am-5pm. Georgetown Atrium, GU-Q, Qatar Foundation, Education City (4457 8100).

Fly high with Brava

If you’ve been watching too many dance reality TV shows and imagining yourself up there in an intense aerial performance, the good news is, you can finally make those dreams come true and sign up at the brand-new Brava Studio. This new venture aims to provide the community in Doha with high-quality dance and aerial arts education. Professional aerialists and dancers will train you to take those scary-looking but very cool leaps into the air (and lots of other dance forms, of course) and you can now have something to brag about to your squad. If aerial fitness is not your thing, check out the afrobeats or street dance classes.
QR85. Open daily 9am-10pm. Parcel 12, 22 La Croisette, Porto Arabia, The Pearl-Qatar (4002 2000).
